The Porter P90® Replacement Sets are a great recreation of the classic P90® Pickups. A P90® is basically a giant single coil with a similar number of turns as a regular humbucker and several thousand more than a traditional single coil pickup. What you get is a great unique sound due to the single wrap of wire and the magnetic field of the two magnets under the pickup.
Currently, we only offer "Soap Bar" P90®'s for online ordering, but "Dog Ear" P90®'s are available for custom order, please contact us.
Dog Ear Vs. Soap Bar-What's the Difference?
Soap bar pickups mount directly to the guitar body. Your pickup is not floating, its a part of the body. Some players prefer this tonally. Other guitars have "Dog Ear" style were the pickup has mounting holes on the side like a humbucker. The covers match the holes and have the "Ears" on the side.
Porter Classic P90® Replacement Pickups
Great
Vintage Tone and the
classic P90® Sound. AlNiCo V Magnets. Hand Wound for a faithful
reproduction of the vintage tone. Can also be wound hotter or
under wound for a 50's tone. Standard output winding results in 8k
for the neck and 9k for the bridge.
Braided hookup wire and wax potted to prevent excess micro phonic
feedback.
Porter Smooth P90® Replacement Pickups
Great
Blues and Jazz Tones. Sounds good distorted as well. AlNiCo II
Magnets. Hand Wound for that killer tone! Standard output winding
results in 8k for the neck and 9k for the bridge. Braided hookup
wire and wax potted to prevent excess micro phonic feedback. Can be
wound hotter or under wound based on tonal preferences.
