Porter Pickups Started as a part of our other business Porter Guitars. In 2008, we launched Porter Pickups as another extension of what we do. Our goal was to help others achieve the sounds they are missing or looking for out of their instruments. We began making pickups for our hand made electric guitars out of a desire to control the tone of instruments that we were putting our name on. We experimented with different winding patterns, materials and worked on our recopies for maximum tone. Through trial and lots of error, we discovered some excellent winding patterns and have stuck with those as customers began to comment on the sound of the pickups put into our guitars.
We started winding Porter Pickups for ourselves, but others quickly noticed the tones and sound quality of our pickups versus several popular brands of pickups. Our goal with Porter Pickups is to offer choices similar to the many choices you get when you choose a Porter Guitar. You can choose your bobbin color, pickup output, hookup wire type at no extra costs. We only charge extra for metal covers. We believe that the customer knows best what bobbin colors are best for THEIR guitars and won't offer a model that doesn't include all of the cover options like some other companies do. We realize not everyone will want a certain model in BLACK, so we won't force you to settle with that.
Porter Guitars Offers custom made electric guitars made by hand from start to finish. We hand select the woods for each guitar and each model comes with several color, hardware, inlay and wood choices. Your guitar ends up being a truly custom instrument made to your specs. We have models of Porter Guitars, but we consider them to be starting points for your custom options. All Porter Guitars include your choice of Porter Pickups!
